Trump Thanks Cohen for Supporting Anti-Weaponization Fund

President Donald Trump on Sunday publicly thanked his former attorney and longtime critic Michael Cohen after the lawyer unexpectedly voiced support for the administration's proposed $1.8 billion anti-weaponization fund, arguing that he personally experienced the type of politically motivated government actions the program is intended to address.

The rare point of agreement between Trump and Cohen came after Cohen published a post on his Substack defending the concept behind the fund, despite years of bitter public conflict with the president.

Trump responded within hours on Truth Social.

"Thank you Michael. The Dumocrats weaponized Government at levels never seen before, and you survived it all. They should pay the ultimate price for what they have done!!!" Trump wrote.

Cohen acknowledged that his position would likely surprise many readers given his well-documented break with Trump. He testified against the former president before Congress in 2019 and during subsequent legal proceedings.

In his post, however, Cohen said his support for the fund was rooted in his own experiences with federal investigations and prosecutions rather than in support for specific individuals who might ultimately receive compensation.

"I support it because I know firsthand what government weaponization looks like when it is directed at a human being," Cohen wrote.

He argued that government officials can become focused on achieving political outcomes rather than pursuing justice, describing what he viewed as abuses of prosecutorial power and media influence.

"I know what happens when prosecutors stop seeking justice and start seeking leverage," Cohen wrote. "I know what happens when anonymous leaks become substitutes for evidence."

He also said he understood the impact such investigations can have on family members caught up in legal and political disputes.

The comments mark a notable departure from Cohen's yearslong criticism of Trump, according to Mediaite. After serving as Trump’s personal attorney and fixer, Cohen became one of the president’s most prominent detractors, providing testimony that contributed to congressional investigations and increased legal scrutiny of Trump.

Trump, in turn, has repeatedly dismissed Cohen as a "convicted liar" and questioned his credibility.
