Best selling author James Patterson told Newsmax that the United States has plenty of “enemies around the world” and he worked off that fact for his latest military-themed thriller, ‘Rocket’s Red Glare.’
Patterson told Ed Henry on The Big Take on Monday that he built the storyline for the new book around the idea of, “What if they attack inside our borders again?”
He said he knows he is not alone in pondering that potential.
“A lot of us feel it's not if,” Patterson said, “It’s when that somebody will attack.”
He made the point there is no apparent shortage of potential adversaries that might want to do great harm to the United States.
“We have a lot of enemies around the world,” he said, adding, “we always have, but now they're mortal enemies.”
He listed some of the adversaries. “We've got them obviously in Iran and Lebanon, in Iraq, and probably Venezuela, Russia, China,” he said.
Patterson partnered with Retired U.S. Army First Sergeant Matt Eversmann to craft the thriller and bring more realism to the story.
And he explained Eversmann was, “The sergeant who was actually portrayed in that movie Black Hawk Down.”
The author said a common theme with many military thrillers is to leave open questions about the villains. That does not happen in this one.
“With the book Rocket’s Red Glare, we get closure and that's satisfying,” Patterson said.
Patterson closed his commenting with a thought about the political environment in America.
Without indicating a lean, he said, “We have to start rowing in the same direction. At least more of us.
"Otherwise the boat is just going to keep spinning around and that's what we're doing now,” Patterson said.
