Jon Bon Jovi abruptly ended a concert at Madison Square Garden on Thursday night after telling fans that a sinus infection had left him unable to deliver the performance they deserved.

The 64-year-old singer stopped the eighth show of Bon Jovi's nine-night Madison Square Garden residency about 90 minutes into the set, shortly after performing the band's 1986 hit "Livin' on a Prayer" with Train frontman Pat Monahan.

"I'm sorry, I'm hurt and you're not getting the best of me," Bon Jovi told the crowd.

The singer asked concertgoers to retain their tickets and indicated that the band would try to arrange another performance.

"Don't throw away your ticket stubs, I'm gonna figure something out, OK? Just hold onto it, we'll figure out how to reschedule," Bon Jovi said.

Before leaving the stage, he added, "But I'm gonna have to cool it for the night. I feel great."

Bon Jovi then embraced members of the band and gave the cheering audience a thumbs-up before walking offstage, according to Rolling Stone.

"The Bon Jovi concert at Madison Square Garden ended after 90 mins tonight," Bon Jovi's representatives said in a statement.

"Jon Bon Jovi spoke from stage and told fans he has been battling a sinus infection which led to the show's early ending. As part of the Bon Jovi residency at Madison Square Garden, Jon has said numerous times that it has been a joy to return to live shows for the band," the statement added.

"Updated information will be available shortly," it concluded.

No immediate announcement was made about a replacement date or whether the illness would affect the residency's final scheduled performance Sunday.

Madison Square Garden continued to list the July 26 concert at 7:30 p.m. as of Friday.

The nine-show New York residency launched the "Forever" tour, Bon Jovi's first full tour since frontman Jon Bon Jovi underwent vocal cord surgery in 2022.

The singer underwent a vocal cord medialization procedure after doctors determined that one of his vocal cords was atrophying, creating uncertainty about whether he would be able to handle the demands of touring again.

Bon Jovi said in 2024 that he would not return to extensive touring unless he could consistently perform at the standard he expected of himself.

After years of rehabilitation and work with vocal coaches, he told People last month that his recovery was complete.

"I'm fully recovered," Bon Jovi said. "It was longer than I'd ever expected, but it had to be right. We never lost faith."

Bon Jovi was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2018 after building a career that includes more than 130 million albums sold and over 2,700 concerts worldwide.

The tour is scheduled to move to Europe next month, beginning Aug. 28 in Edinburgh, followed by a Dublin concert and three September shows at London's Wembley Stadium.
