Rep. Fallon to Newsmax: US Can Be Great Without Being Perfect

Rep. Pat Fallon, R-Texas, defended Vice President JD Vance's Fourth of July message Saturday, saying Americans should recognize the country's achievements despite its shortcomings.

Appearing on Newsmax TV's "Saturday Report," Fallon praised Vance's remarks, which encouraged Americans to celebrate the nation's founding while acknowledging that the United States, like any country, is imperfect.

"I think he hit the nail on the head," Fallon said. "It was a wonderful speech, and it was very stirring and it was thoughtful."

Fallon said Vance's message resonated with him because it drew a distinction between striving for perfection and recognizing the country's accomplishments.

"This is the United States of America. It's not the United States of Utopia," Fallon said.

He argued that some critics focus too heavily on the nation's flaws and overlook what he described as its broader success.

"What the vice president was getting at is some of these folks will criticize America really, essentially, because we're not perfect," Fallon said.

"And of course, no nation is perfect, but that doesn't mean we're not great," he said.

Vance delivered the remarks as the nation celebrated Independence Day and the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, urging Americans to take pride in the country's founding ideals while working to address its challenges.

Fallon compared the country's imperfections to those of parents, saying people can appreciate what they have been given without expecting flawlessness.

"There's a distinct difference between perfect and great," Fallon said.

"Most of us were fortunate enough to be raised by great parents, but they weren't perfect.

"It doesn't mean we don't appreciate and love them for what they've done for us, and that's the way we should really look upon our country as well," he said.

The Texas congressman said Americans should remain grateful for living in the United States despite political divisions and ongoing debates over the country's direction.

"We're blessed to live in the greatest country history has ever known," Fallon said.

Vance and other Trump administration officials have used this year's semiquincentennial celebrations to emphasize patriotism and the nation's founding principles.

The administration has argued that the anniversary provides an opportunity to highlight American achievements while promoting what it describes as a renewed sense of national pride.

Fallon's comments echoed that message, saying Americans should not allow the country's imperfections to overshadow its accomplishments.

His remarks came as political leaders across the country marked the Fourth of July with speeches, ceremonies, and public events celebrating the nation's founding and reflecting on its history 250 years after the Declaration of Independence was adopted.
