Free Beacon Poll: GOP Primary Voters Strongly Back Israel

Republican primary voters overwhelmingly want candidates who stand with Israel and reject antisemitism, according to a new Washington Free Beacon poll, highlighting a growing divide with the Democratic Party as anti-Israel voices gain influence within it.

The survey found that likely GOP primary voters favor candidates who support a strong U.S.-Israel relationship by a 57-point margin. They also prefer candidates who explicitly denounce antisemitism by a 52-point margin.

The findings come as several anti-Israel, socialist-backed candidates recently won Democrat primaries in New York and Colorado, including Darializa Avila Chevalier, Claire Valdez, Melat Kiros, and New York City Comptroller Brad Lander.

The candidates oppose U.S. military aid to Israel, have labeled the Jewish state an apartheid regime, and have accused it of genocide.

The poll also found Republican voters are far less likely to support candidates who take positions viewed as hostile to Israel.

Support declined by 25 points for candidates who describe Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu as a war criminal.

Candidates who support efforts to economically isolate Israel or vote against congressional resolutions condemning antisemitism were less likely to earn GOP primary support by 43 points in each case.

The results underscore the Republican Party's continued alignment with Israel, a position championed by President Donald Trump throughout his presidency.

By contrast, an April 2026 Pew Research Center survey found that 80% of Democrats and Democrat-leaning independents hold an unfavorable view of Israel. The same survey found that only 4% of Muslim respondents viewed Israel favorably.

Although Republican primary voters expressed strong support for Israel and Trump's focus on confronting threats from Iran, Venezuela, and Cuba, they said kitchen-table issues remain their top concerns heading into the midterm elections.

Thirty-one percent identified the cost of living as the nation's biggest issue, followed by immigration at 13%, and jobs and the economy at 12%.

The poll was conducted before Trump announced that the United States and Iran had reached a memorandum of understanding that temporarily halted hostilities.

Even before that agreement, however, Republican primary voters backed the conflict with Iran by a 59-point margin and approved of Trump's handling of the conflict by a 55-point margin.

The poll was conducted from June 5-9 and surveyed more than 1,100 likely Republican primary voters nationwide. The margin of error is plus or minus 3.3 percentage points.
