President Donald Trump called on Congress to prioritize passage of $350 billion in defense spending and the SAVE America Act when lawmakers return to Washington following the Fourth of July holiday break.
In a Truth Social post early Tuesday, Trump urged House and Senate Republican leaders to make what he called "Reconciliation 3.0" their top legislative priority, arguing the package would strengthen the nation's military while advancing his broader America First agenda.
"The United States Military has never been stronger, or more powerful. No other Nation can do what we do (It's not even close!)," Trump wrote.
The president pointed to what he described as record military recruiting numbers and high morale across the armed forces, saying the nation's military capabilities were showcased during the recent celebration marking America's 250th anniversary.
"This year we set even more Historic Recruiting Records, months ahead of schedule. Morale has never been higher," Trump said. "Our Military's unmatched POWER was on full display during our Celebration of 250 Years of American Independence."
Trump also embraced the administration's rebranding of the Pentagon as the "War Department," adding that the agency "has never been 'HOTTER'" and arguing Congress should ensure it remains fully funded.
"We need to keep it that way, which is why, when Congress returns, we must pass Reconciliation 3.0, with 350 Billion Dollars for Defense, plus THE SAVE AMERICA ACT!" Trump wrote.
The president called on congressional leaders to quickly move the defense funding measure through the budget process.
"I am calling on House and Senate Leadership to make this their Number One Priority, and ensure that $350 Billion in Recon 3.0 moves out of the Budget Committee as soon as Congress is back in session," he said.
Trump paired the defense proposal with renewed backing for the SAVE America Act, legislation Republicans have promoted as a cornerstone of the administration's election integrity and immigration agenda.
GOP lawmakers have argued the measure is necessary to help prevent noncitizens from voting in federal elections, while Democrats have largely opposed the legislation as unnecessary and potentially burdensome for eligible voters.
"The SAVE AMERICA ACT, which everyone is asking for, paired with the full funding of our Great Department of War, can be passed very quickly, ensuring that the United States of America stays FREE for Generations to come," Trump wrote.
The House and Senate return Thursday, with Republican leaders preparing a busy legislative agenda that includes budget reconciliation, defense funding, and other priorities backed by the White House.
