Rep. Tony Wied, R-Wis., defended President Donald Trump's approach toward Iran during a Thursday appearance on Newsmax, arguing that the Islamic Republic has been the source of instability in the region for decades.

"There is the danger of the Iranians having uranium," Wied said on "Wake Up America" when asked about congressional efforts to limit the president's military authority.

"That's a radical regime that started 47 years ago. They started this mess," he added.

Wied said he supports Trump's actions to prevent Iran from becoming a nuclear threat.

"I trust President Trump in the actions that he's taken in order to take away that threat of a nuclear threat to Europe and also to us," he said.

Wied dismissed a House War Powers Resolution viewed by some as a rebuke of Trump, saying, "I don't think it'll go anywhere."

Instead, Wied said the focus should remain on confronting the Iranian regime and its nuclear ambitions.

"It is my hope that we get this radical regime out of there, and they are no longer a threat to our country," he said.

Wied's remarks came as lawmakers continue debating U.S. policy toward Iran and the administration's efforts to counter the regime's influence and nuclear program.
