Rep. Randy Fine, R-Fla., told Newsmax that dealing with the "religious fanatics" that run Iran makes peace in the Middle East a tough thing to achieve.
Fine told Newsmax's "National Report" on Monday, "What everyone needs to understand is the same religious fanatics that are stabbing people in France, that are running people over in Germany, they're the ones who run Iran. That is what they believe, that is how they operate. And so, dealing with evil is a difficult thing."
Fine said the upcoming meeting between President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will focus on Iran. "I think they're really going to focus in on Iran," he said. "And how do we get this to an end? I mean, that's what everyone wants."
Trump initiated a pause in the new round of military strikes against Iran, giving the country’s surviving leadership another apparent opportunity to end the conflict with the U.S. and Israel.
Fine told Newsmax, "I'm sure the prime minister and the president are going to talk about the next steps to fully defeat Iran and open it up to the Iranian people."
The Florida Republican said people challenging Trump's strategy against Iran were not paying close attention. "There's a lot we know, and I think there's a lot that we don't know. And I think what the president has shown is over 13 days, he can hit anything he wants in Iran without an issue. We hold all the cards. And perhaps that pause was put in place to try again, to see if we can bring the Iranians to heel."
Fine said claims by the Iranian leadership about the Middle East and the ongoing conflict should not be taken at face value. "I think what they say in public," he said, "may be a little different than what they do in private. But I think what's clear is we hold all the cards and we are making sure that they will never get a nuclear weapon."
Fine posted on Sunday, "Islam is not a religion of peace. Until we accept this simple truth, we will never solve this existential threat to Western Civilization."
Mediators have achieved progress in efforts to get the United States and Iran back to negotiations and avert an all-out war in the Middle East, with a pause in attacks coming after a period of rapidly escalating tensions.
Two unnamed sources in the region said that after neither the U.S. nor Iran reported conducting any attacks for three straight days, the pause provided a respite following about two weeks of sustained bombardments that had raised fears of a return to all-out war.
