Kevin Sorbo to Newsmax: DEI 'Biggest Scam' Since COVID Vaccine

Actor Kevin Sorbo said Thursday he expects Harvard University will ultimately "have to cave in" to the Trump administration's demands or risk losing billions in federal funding.

He sharply criticized the diversity, equity, and inclusion policies deployed by the university during an appearance on Newsmax's "National Report."

"I'd love to see the battle go on," Sorbo said of the dispute between Education Secretary Linda McMahon and Harvard.

"Personally, I think DEI is going to become known as the biggest scam since the COVID vaccine."

Sorbo said employers and universities should focus solely on qualifications rather than race or other characteristics.

"If I'm a business owner, I don't care what color somebody is. I don't care what religion somebody is. I don't care what ethnicity," he said.

"I want to hire the best person. The best person should be able to get the job."

Applying the same standard to college admissions, Sorbo said, "You should bring students into schools like Harvard that are qualified to be there. Why would you bring in inferior students?"

He added that he believes the country should move beyond what he called "the insanity of this woke culture that we're living in."

Discussing the administration's effort to withhold federal funding from Harvard, Sorbo predicted the university would eventually relent.

"I think ultimately they're going to have to cave in and give in," he said. "If they're not going to, they're going to lose those grants."

Sorbo also said universities should face consequences despite their financial resources.

"You've got to punish these universities that have so much money the way it is," he said, adding that Harvard has "a massive amount of money."

He also accused elite universities of hypocrisy, pointing to their historic Christian roots.

"They talk about DEI," Sorbo said. "If they want to take anything down from all these old Harvard, Yale schools, they were all really founded by Christians."

"The hypocrisy seems to shine through all the time with these people."

Turning to education more broadly, Sorbo promoted homeschooling and credited his wife, author Sam Sorbo, with encouraging families to pursue it.

"One of the great blessings of COVID is 2 million more families are now homeschooling because they woke up to the realities of not using public schools as a babysitting service," he said.

Sorbo also criticized the nation's education system. He said, "Our education system sucks. As simple as that."

"We were No. 1 in the world in the '50s. We're 40th now. What does that tell you?" he continued. "Every election cycle, they always bring up, 'We've got to improve education.'

"They don't want to improve education. They want to keep everybody under wraps, and government wants to control everything that's coming through, not only school systems, but also universities as well."
