Republicans are working on a third reconciliation bill "to make real progress" on President Donald Trump's agenda, Rep. John Rose, R-Tenn., told Newsmax on Wednesday.
Speaking on "Wake Up America Early," Rose said House Republicans are already discussing a potential "reconciliation 3.0" package focused on defense funding, government savings, affordability measures, and election integrity.
"I think it's necessary," Rose told host Alex Kraemer. "If we're going to get around the obstructionism of the Democrats, if we want to make real progress on the president's agenda for getting the American country back on track, it looks like we're going to have to do it in such a way as to be able to do work without having to have Democrat votes on the Senate side."
Reconciliation bills allow legislation affecting federal spending, revenues, or the debt limit to pass the Senate with a simple majority, bypassing the chamber's 60-vote filibuster threshold.
Rose's comments came after House Republicans approved a $70 billion reconciliation package in a narrow 214-212 party-line vote.
The measure provides funding for immigration enforcement and border security operations through the remainder of Trump's term and is expected to be signed by the president.
Rose said the latest bill was needed after what he described as months of Democrat resistance to Republican border-security priorities.
"In the House, we had funded Customs and Border Protection and ICE a number of times," he said. "Finally, the Senate was able to get past the filibuster and the obstructionism of Democrats on the Senate side."
Looking ahead, Rose said Republicans are exploring additional opportunities to reduce federal spending and address economic concerns facing Americans.
"There's a lot that can be done there," he said. "Continuing to find ways to save money to confront waste, fraud, and abuse that we see that's rampant, particularly in blue states across the country. And to get affordability addressed as a nation."
Rose also suggested election integrity could become part of a future reconciliation package if lawmakers can structure the legislation appropriately.
"I might add election integrity to that set of issues that we may be able to take on if we approach reconciliation 3.0 in the right way," he said.
The Tennessee Republican argued that reconciliation may be the most effective tool available for advancing Trump's priorities while avoiding Democrat opposition in the Senate.
"These are the things that we need to get done," Rose said, "to get the American country back on track."
