President Donald Trump is expected to announce Thursday night in a speech to the nation that newly declassified intelligence reports reveal a foreign nation's plans to interfere in the 2020 presidential election, CNBC reported Monday, citing an MS NOW report based on two unnamed White House officials.
CIA Director John Ratcliffe, Acting Director of National Intelligence Bill Pulte, FBI Director Kash Patel and Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin will join Trump, according to MS NOW.
Earlier Monday, Trump announced on Truth Social that he "will be making a Speech to the Nation on Thursday evening, at 9 P.M. Eastern," but provided no details on its subject.
The report came as MS NOW, citing two U.S. officials with knowledge of the matter, reported earlier Monday that a White House task force reviewing thousands of pages of classified intelligence and law enforcement documents for evidence of irregularities in U.S. elections is expected to begin releasing documents within weeks.
Trump lost the 2020 election to Joe Biden and has maintained ever since that his defeat was the result of widespread voter fraud. He continues to frequently claim that the race and others were "rigged."
The issue has been central to his push for the SAVE America Act, which would require proof of citizenship to register to vote and a photo ID to cast a ballot, while also imposing additional restrictions on mail-in voting.
A 2021 U.S. intelligence assessment found no indications that any foreign actor attempted or succeeded in altering "any technical aspect" of the 2020 presidential election vote, including voter registrations, ballots, tabulations or results.
The assessment judged that Russian President Vladimir Putin authorized parts of his government to conduct influence operations aimed at boosting the vote for Trump and undermining public confidence in the U.S. electoral process.
China considered conducting influence operations designed to change the election outcome but decided against doing so, while Iran pursued a "multi-pronged" covert influence campaign to undercut Trump's candidacy, the assessment said.
The report was drafted by the National Intelligence Council, the top body of U.S. intelligence analysts, along with the CIA, Department of Homeland Security, the FBI, the State Department's intelligence bureau and the National Security Agency.
