Political commentator Dick Morris told Newsmax on Friday that the end of the war between Iran and the U.S. will be a boost to President Donald Trump and Republicans in the midterms.

Morris noted that with the Strait of Hormuz reopening, the world no longer faces a worldwide oil shortage. He added that gas prices were expected to fall.

"With the [strait] open and Venezuela ... with major production and with the UAE doubling production and leaving OPEC, we're past [an oil shortage]," Morris said on "Rob Schmitt Tonight." "And Trump really helped us avert a disaster and lowered gas prices. That will have a huge impact on the election."

Morris said Americans will start to come around on Republicans when prices begin to fall.

"The one economic statistic every American knows is how much he paid for gas last night," Morris said. "They know it to the 10th of a penny. That's going to have a huge impact because the inflation issue really doesn't exist."

"The U.S. inflation rate has gone down," Morris added. "The only thing that's gone up is oil."

Morris also pointed out the long term positives of making a deal with Iran.

"It eliminates the [Strait] of Hormuz as a choke point," Morris said. "Oman and the UAE are building land-based alternatives and other canal-based alternatives, and Iran will never be able to do this again."

"And when people talk about how do we enforce it, we have the U.S. Air Force, right?" he added. "And with no anti-aircraft system in Iran, Trump can flick that switch anytime he wants."

"And the only reason we have a deal now is he did it for three days before the deal was signed," Morris continued. "And those three days of bombing showed Iran that he meant business and that President Trump would do what no president has ever done."

Morris said Trump will ensure the deal is enforced and that Iran will be held accountable.
