Rep. Tenney to Newsmax: Investigate NYC Official

Rep. Claudia Tenney, R-N.Y., on Friday called for an investigation of a reported plan by a senior New York City official to meet with Iran's ambassador to the United Nations, saying the official should be fired and accusing the administration of Mayor Zohran Mamdani of undermining U.S. interests.

On Newsmax's "Ed Henry: The Big Take," Tenney responded to reports that Ana María Archila, commissioner of the Mayor's Office of International Affairs, had planned to meet with Iran's U.N. ambassador before the State Department reportedly intervened and the meeting was canceled.

"It's completely unacceptable," Tenney said. "It's almost like having a shadow secretary of state in New York City."

The lawmaker said she was not prepared to accuse Archila of treason because the meeting did not take place.

"I think treason is very, very close to what it is. I'm not sure we've reached the definition because the meeting was canceled and there hasn't been any proof that they've actually done anything," she said.

Tenney said that reports of the planned meeting raise broader concerns about the city's leadership, accusing Mamdani and his allies of pursuing an ideological agenda hostile to the United States.

"Don't underestimate these Marxists, so-called progressives," she said. "They are not just progressives.

"They're not just Marxists and socialists. They are subversive. They are trying to take down the American government. They're trying to take down the United States."

Tenney also referenced reports that city officials had met with Cuban officials, saying such contacts were inappropriate given Cuba's communist government.

"It's just completely unacceptable that they're undermining the United States," she said.

Tenney called for Secretary of State Marco Rubio and other federal officials to investigate the matter.

"An investigation has to be done by the secretary of state and our officials because this is just unacceptable," Tenney said.

She also urged Mamdani to dismiss Archila from her post.

"He really should remove her from the position she's in. She has no right to be there," Tenney said. "He should fire her immediately."

Tenney also criticized Archila's past leadership of the Working Families Party in New York, alleging the organization has shifted from its labor roots to a platform that opposes Immigration and Customs Enforcement and law enforcement in general.

"This is who she is," Tenney said. "The fact that she's serving in city government and taking taxpayer money and a pension and healthcare is unacceptable."
