White House deputy press secretary Abigail Jackson told Newsmax on Monday that the Trump administration is pressing Congress to pass the SAVE America Act, arguing the legislation is needed to prevent election fraud after New Jersey acknowledged that thousands of noncitizens were mistakenly placed on its voter rolls.

During an appearance on "National Report," Jackson said the New Jersey case undercut Democrats' longstanding claims that noncitizens could not end up registered to vote or cast ballots, calling it fresh evidence that federal lawmakers should act.

"I'm old enough to remember when the Democrats told us that this type of stuff was impossible, that there was no way a noncitizen could wind up on the voter rolls, let alone cast a ballot," Jackson said.

"And last week, we found out, by the Democrats' own admission that, not only did noncitizens somehow wind up on the voter rolls, but they also voted in an election," she continued. "So, it just goes to show you that what they say is impossible is possible. And that just shows you why it's so important that we pass the SAVE America Act."

The interview came after New Jersey officials disclosed that about 6,600 noncitizens were mistakenly added to the state's voter rolls because of a Motor Vehicle Commission software error, with roughly 400 having cast ballots since 2023.

Jackson also weighed in after veteran Democrat strategist James Carville said the party should stop fighting voter ID laws because they're supported by overwhelming majorities of Americans.

"It is so common sense," she said. "And that's why you really have to ask yourself, Why are elected Democrats opposed to it?

"When you look at the polling on this issue, a vast majority of Americans, including Democrat voters, want their elections to be safe and secure."

Jackson then contrasted those polling numbers with Democrat resistance to the SAVE America Act, saying, "The only people who don't are Democrats who have already been elected. And when you see things like noncitizens on the voter rolls, noncitizens casting ballots, you really have to ask yourself what the Democrats' true motives are here."

She said President Donald Trump has made election integrity a legislative priority and will continue lobbying Congress until the bill reaches his desk.

"The president remains totally committed to getting the SAVE America Act across the finish line," Jackson said. "You hear him talk about it at every opportunity. He will continue pushing Congress to pass it into law."

Beyond legislation, Jackson said the administration is using executive authority to strengthen election security, pointing to letters sent last week by Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin to Democrat secretaries of state urging them to review their voter rolls.

"Whether it is through executive actions that the administration has the authority to take to clean up the voter rolls, or through pushing for legislative fixes, we are totally committed to securing our elections," she said.
