The New York Police Department reportedly will deploy 10,000 officers as part of what officials described as "assets you see and assets you don't see" for Thursday's parade celebrating the New York Knicks' NBA championship.

According to Gothamist's Brittany Kriegstein on X, the deployment will be the largest planned police presence for any event in New York City as officials prepare for what could be a record-setting crowd along Lower Manhattan's famed "Canyon of Heroes."

The NYPD said the security operation will include heavy weapons teams, K-9 units, explosive-detection personnel, transit officers, transportation units, and highway patrol resources.

Officials stressed that attendees should expect both visible and undercover security measures throughout the event.

"Tomorrow, we celebrate the New York Knicks in the Canyon of Heroes," the department posted on X. "We want everyone to be safe and enjoy this historic moment."

The department also announced that all attendees will be screened before entering viewing areas and that bags will not be permitted.

Security pens are scheduled to open at 6 a.m., with officials encouraging fans to arrive early.

The extensive security preparations follow citywide celebrations after the Knicks won their first NBA championship in 53 years.

New York police said Sunday that 63 people had been arrested overnight as unruly crowds flooded into the city's streets to celebrate.

One person was shot and four others were stabbed as revelers smashed police car windshields with bats and set school buses on fire, an NYPD spokesperson said.

According to NBC New York, Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch praised officers for maintaining order during citywide celebrations while dealing with isolated incidents of disorder and dozens of arrests in Midtown Manhattan.

"Thursday's championship parade will place significant demands on the NYPD," Tisch wrote in a memo to officers, NBC 4 reported. "I know you will meet that challenge the same way you met every challenge throughout these playoffs."

The parade is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. near Battery Park and proceed north on Broadway to City Hall, where players will receive keys to the city during a championship ceremony.

Mayor Zohran Mamdani has predicted the event could become the largest ticker-tape parade in New York City history.

City officials recently launched a website, providing route maps, transportation updates, security information, and details for attendees.

The city also plans to continue the longstanding ticker-tape tradition by distributing approximately 2,500 pounds of shredded paper to office buildings along the route.

Thursday's celebration marks a historic moment for Knicks fans. Although the franchise won NBA titles in 1970 and 1973, it never received a ticker-tape parade because the tradition had been discontinued.

The Knicks' latest title has revived one of New York's most iconic civic traditions, prompting city leaders to prepare for crowds unlike any seen in recent years.
