U.S. Sen. Mitch McConnell of Kentucky was admitted to the hospital Sunday morning, according to a statement from his office.
“Senator McConnell was admitted to the hospital this morning. He is receiving excellent care.”
No additional details were immediately released, including the reason for the hospitalization or how long he is expected to remain under medical care.
McConnell, 84, is Kentucky’s senior U.S. senator and has served in the Senate since 1985. He is the longest-serving senator in Kentucky history and previously served as Senate majority leader.
