Hunter Biden, who has become increasingly visible in public since his father left office, has been hired by a luxury drug and alcohol rehabilitation center in Southern California as an adviser and executive director of its charitable foundation.
Peak Path Health in the Hollywood Hills section of Los Angeles announced Tuesday that it hired Biden as executive director of the Peak Path Health Foundation, a nonprofit organization "created in partnership with Peak Path Health to expand recovery support, advocacy, education, and community outreach efforts."
"Celebrating seven years of sobriety in June 2026, he brings both lived experience and a passion for expanding access to recovery and behavioral health services," Peak Path Health said in a news release. "The Foundation is dedicated to helping individuals who may lack the financial means to access the long-term support necessary for sustained recovery."
Biden's recent surge in visibility follows years of maintaining a low profile while embroiled in legal controversies, especially during his father's presidency.
But questions remain about his finances and where he is living.
Even though then-President Joe Biden gave his son a blanket pardon for any crimes committed from Jan. 1, 2014, to Dec. 1, 2024, Hunter Biden reportedly still has millions of dollars in unpaid debt and legal bills.
On a November 2025 podcast with South African host Joshua Rubin, he said his $17 million in debt was connected to his legal fees.
"Look at the past six years of my life and the $17 million of debt that I'm in, as it relates to my legal fees," he said.
In an April court filing in a fee dispute with Biden's former law firm Winston & Strawn, which represented him in his federal gun and tax cases, Biden's attorney described him as "impecunious," said he "lives abroad," and stated that he "cannot pay his current lawyers."
The filing did not identify the country where Biden lives. Other court filings, however, have said he traveled to South Africa, where his wife has family. Public reports and social media posts have also placed Biden in California on several occasions this spring.
It is unclear how much Peak Path will pay Biden. It is also unclear whether the job requires him to work at its treatment center or whether he can work remotely if he is living overseas.
Peak Path did not respond to requests by the Washington Free Beacon for comment, and Biden's attorney declined to comment.
Biden was also hired last year as director of development at BASTA Universal, a tenants rights law firm in Los Angeles whose nonprofit status was revoked last year, according to the Free Beacon.
