Trump: No Rush for When Nuke Inspectors Land in Iran

President Donald Trump on Tuesday dismissed reports that Iran would not allow international inspectors access to its damaged nuclear sites, saying that if those reports were correct, he would cancel further negotiations with Tehran.

The United States and Iran signed a memorandum of understanding last week establishing a 60-day framework while the sides work toward a permanent deal.

The MOU aims to curb Iran's nuclear ambitions and reopen the Strait of Hormuz in exchange for sanctions relief.

Trump wrote Tuesday morning on Truth Social that “Iran has fully and completely agreed to the highest level of Nuclear inspections long into the future.”

He was later asked at Reading Regional Airport in Pennsylvania about reports on Iranian social media that no such visits were scheduled.

“They're wrong. They're wrong, they're wrong,” Trump said on his way to a speech in nearby Macungie.

His remarks aired live on Newsmax and the free Newsmax2 streaming platform.

“They know they're wrong,” he said. “They told us inside and we have it down, 100% inspections. And if they were right, I'd cancel the meetings.”

Vice President JD Vance, who was leading the U.S. delegation in talks with Iran in Switzerland, said Monday that Tehran had agreed to inspections by the U.N.'s International Atomic Energy Agency.

Trump was asked when those inspections might begin.

“At the appropriate time,” he said. “There's no rush, but they'll be on the ground at the appropriate time.”

IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi told Japan's NHK-TV in Tokyo on Tuesday that Iran had agreed to allow IAEA inspectors back into the country and that inspections would take place.

"We think that the sooner the better, especially since this [MOU] has a time frame of 60 days, so we will have to be working without losing much time," he said.

Trump also had a message for critics of the MOU with Iran, including Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas.

“Anybody that’s been critical of it has to be educated, even if they’re friends of mine, because we have Iran in a position that nobody has ever had,” he said.

“This should have been done for 47 years by other presidents, and we have Iran in a position where their military has been totally wiped out, their leadership has been wiped out, their radar has been wiped out, everything has been wiped out," he said.

"They do not  have a good negotiating position,” Trump said.
