Trump Sees Abraham Accords Expanding After Iran Deal

President Donald Trump said Tuesday he hopes more Arab and Middle Eastern nations will join the Abraham Accords now that tensions between the United States and Iran have eased.

Trump spoke to reporters while meeting with United Arab Emirates President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed al Nahyan at the G7 Summit in France. The UAE, Bahrain, Sudan and Morocco were among the first nations to join the Abraham Accords, a signature foreign policy achievement of Trump's first term.

Trump was asked whether there have been discussions with other Arab nations about joining the Abraham Accords. The question came days after the U.S. and Iran agreed to a 60-day memorandum of understanding to halt hostilities while the parties negotiate a broader peace deal.

"Well, I'd love to have them," Trump said in remarks that aired live on Newsmax and the free Newsmax2 streaming platform.

"This is a man who's very advanced. He was early in. And he's done very well with them, the Abraham Accords," Trump said, pointing to al Nahyan. "I think they should happen."

In May, Trump posted on Truth Social that "it should be mandatory, at a minimum" for Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Pakistan, Turkey, Egypt and Jordan "to sign onto the Abraham Accords."

"The big impediment to the Abraham Accords ... we have our original countries, very smart countries, every one of them," Trump said Tuesday. "Did you notice that even during that period of conflict [with Iran], nobody dropped out. Nobody said, 'Oh, gee, I'm going to drop out.' Nobody.

"I think they're all going to come in now to the Abraham Accords. The only conflict was a place called Iran. And I understand that, you know, it's a little bit tough when people were afraid of Iran. But I think they're going to all start coming in there."
