Less than 24 hours after President Donald Trump explicitly told pregnant women not to take Tylenol, Dr. Mehmet Oz walked back that advice.

On Monday, Trump held a press conference announcing a supposed link between autism and the use of acetaminophen by pregnant women. Under Trump and Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s directive, the FDA will be telling physicians that acetaminophen use can lead to increased chances of autism in the baby. The announcement was made with no evidence supporting the claim, and experts in the field have largely refuted the claim.

Despite this, Trump said:

Because I think you shouldn’t take it. You shouldn’t take it during the entire pregnancy. They may tell you ‘toward the end’ of the pregnancy — You shouldn’t take it during the entire.

The next morning, Oz — the administrator of the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services — went on Fox News to clarify that the administration’s position isn’t to “never” take Tylenol.

“We know that people who take Tylenol for prolonged periods of time during pregnancy seem to have a higher incidence of autism in aggregate,” Oz said. “So the message is not, ‘Never take Tylenol.’ It’s, ‘Take Tylenol judiciously.’ Take it by talking with your doctor. Make sure there’s an important reason to take it. Don’t take it willy-nilly because you think it’s so safe it couldn’t possibly cause a problem, because those assumptions appear to be erroneous.”
