In 2023, the State of California distributed over $267 million to combat organized retail crime. Today, Gov. Gavin Newsom announced that the state has recovered $190 million in stolen property since 2023.

I don’t know about you, but the math does not seem to be adding up here.

Question: How much more does the state have to spend to get closer to $0 in stolen goods? How many more hundreds of millions of dollars do you think they will spend in the next two years? While I am no legal expert, I would assume the cheapest way to go about this would be to enforce the law and hold criminals accountable, but I digress.

Do you think criminals do things like this because the state is doing all it can to end the shoplifting epidemic?

No? Didn't think so.

You think the Governor has anything to say about this?

Yeah, don't think he will be saying anything about that.

As previously mentioned, it's unclear how many more millions or billions the state will have to spend to end this, but I have a feeling it's going to be very expensive, and things will only get worse. Weird how things add up like that, isn't it?
