California isn’t just a sanctuary state for illegal aliens anymore. It’s a sanctuary state that went from actively blocking law enforcement cooperation (and penalizing law enforcement personnel who do cooperate with ICE) to a state that actively permits assaults on ICE.
In the first case that we previously reported on, a jury simply decided not to convict a man who stole an ICE vehicle.
A federal jury has acquitted a South L.A. man who was charged with stealing government property by towing an immigration agent’s vehicle during the arrest of a TikTok influencer in Downtown Los Angeles earlier this year.
Authorities in an affidavit alleged that Nunez pressed the passenger’s side door of Martinez’s car against a law enforcement officer as officers were struggling to arrest her.
Officers then threatened to arrest Nunez and he allegedly swore at them and said “something was going to happen” to them, according to the affidavit.
This time the case never even made it to a jury because an Obama judge decided to legalize assaulting ICE personnel.
Days ahead of trial, a federal judge has dismissed an indictment against a TikTok streamer shot by ICE earlier this year, citing constitutional violations by the government.
In a Saturday order, U.S. District Judge Fernando M. Olguin cited the deprivation of Carlitos Ricardo Parias’ access to counsel while held in Immigration and Customs Enforcement detention and the government’s failure to comply with discovery deadlines — including the timely release of body worn camera footage that captured the shooting.
Federal authorities had accused Parias, a well-known TikTok streamer of local breaking news, of ramming his car into agents’ vehicles after they boxed him in and tried to arrest him during an immigration enforcement operation in October. An ICE officer opened fire, striking Parias in the arm and injuring a deputy U.S. marshal with a ricochet bullet.
That same day, prosecutors charged Parias with assault on a federal officer. In November, he was indicted by a grand jury. Parias was scheduled to go to trial on Tuesday.
In his 28-page order, Olguin dismissed the indictment with prejudice, meaning prosecutors cannot refile the same charges of assault on a federal officer using a deadly or dangerous weapon and depredation of government property.
Olguin is an Obama appointee. Parias is well connected with local Democrats.
Before Carlitos Ricardos Parias, an illegal alien TikTok influencer, was arrested in an alleged car ramming assault on federal agents in Los Angeles, he had received a ‘Certificate of Appreciation’ from Councilmember Curren D. Price Jr for his “tireless efforts to safeguard our neighborhoods from illegal raids”.
Such close cooperation between illegal alien rioters and local Democrat officials first attracted national attention during what some have called ‘Newsom’s Riots’ when leftist groups funded by the governor and other top Dems set off violent confrontations in L.A.. While the riots died down once the National Guard took decisive action, the violence has continued on a smaller scale as the Parias arrest shows with local confrontations by activists backed by California Democrats.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Bill Essayli has been a disaster and needs to go, but the bigger picture here is that California Dems have simply decided that violence against ICE personnel, much as they decided that violence against Southern California Jews by Hamas supporters, was the ‘right thing to do’ and those carrying it out need to be protected.
(The analogy isn’t accidental because Judge Olguin had previously thrown out a lawsuit by Jewish parents over antisemitic ethnic studies materials in the classroom.)
That’s the equivalent of legalized lynching in the South and it has to be treated that way.
The sanctuary state is becoming an insurrection.
