Donald and Melania Trump seemed to be caught in a heated exchange when the President was spotted gesturing at his wife whilst she appeared to disagree with him.

The pair were observed having their tense discussion aboard Marine One, the US President's helicopter, as they travelled back from a turbulent day at the United Nations General Assembly in New York. The President, 79, was witnessed - through Marine One's window - pointing towards the First Lady, 55, as they conversed whilst seated facing each other on Wednesday evening.

The duo were subsequently seen disembarking the helicopter and clasping hands as they strolled across the South Lawn into The White House, presenting a contrasting image to their apparent disagreement captured on Marine One.

The President delivered a furious statement at the UN on Wednesday, alleging that he and his wife had fallen victim to "triple sabotage" following a dispute concerning a malfunctioning escalator. Donald and Melania entered the UN building, but an escalator ceased functioning when they stepped onto it.

The Commander-in-chief seized this moment to lambast the UN, asserting the incident could have proved perilous and caused harm to the Trumps, reports the Mirror.

Donald declared it was "amazing that Melania and I didn't fall forward onto the sharp edges of these steel steps, face first. It was only that we were each holding the handrail tightly or, it would have been a disaster". Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt alleged that UN personnel had jested about cutting power to the escalator whilst the President and First Lady were using it as a practical joke.

The Republican President lashed out over the escalator incident, branding it "absolutely sabotage". Trump went on to declare: "The people that did it should be arrested!".

Donald and Melania wed in 2005 and share one child - Barron Trump - yet the First Lady has frequently seemed exasperated with her spouse and her position at the pinnacle of American politics.

The former model has repeatedly been spotted batting away her husband's hand when he attempts to clasp hers and has faced accusations of donning exceptionally wide-brimmed hats to prevent her husband from pecking her on the cheek.

Donald Trump recently offered marital guidance to Emmanuel Macron following startling footage that appeared to show the French President's wife striking him during a fierce row, just before the pair stepped off an aircraft for a trip to Vietnam.

When quizzed about the episode on Fox News, Trump remarked: "Make sure the door remains closed. That was not good."

The US President continued: "I spoke to him. He's fine. They're fine. They're two really good people. I know him very well, and I don't know what that was all about. But I know him very well, and they're fine."
