Women are reportedly using 'Tinder for sperm' apps in a desperate bid to become mums. The platforms offer wannabe mums the chance to create their own profiles to match with donors. But this sinister sperm black market has a dangerous side with many women claiming they have faced harassment and abuse.

Fertility services are meant to develop healthy eggs and sperm in the best ways possible to maximise the chances of getting pregnant, with any potential health concerns fully known beforehand. There is also anonymity between clients, so many are unaware of whose sperm is being used.

.According to the Sun, these new 'sperm apps' allow users to create profiles that show full names, personal information and preferences, much like any other dating app. However, these apps are not regulated, which means women can be put in danger in the digital black market.

Some women have been sent dead or infected sperm, some of which has even been packaged in a box for tomato passatta. The unregulated nature means potentially hereditary conditions that could be passed down are unknown.

Others who choose to meet their donors could also be coerced into conception through sex rather than artificial insemination. Previous horror stories have been reported about how one woman was raped by a donor who had forced his way into her home.

Speaking to the Sun, one woman revealed how she was tricked into giving money away, despite the donor changing his mind at the last minute. After being in the bathroom for 10 minutes, he claimed he couldn't go through with it but demanded £15 and left.

"He’s just come down thinking he’s going to open the door and have his way with me," the woman said. "There’s a lot of desperate men out there, to be honest, just thinking, ‘Oh, the woman’s desperate for a baby, I’ll be able to swing her around.'"

Daniel Bayen, a donor from the US, has insisted there are many good donors out there.

Regularly giving updates on what he gets up to on social media, he explained: "The spectrum of open donors is just like the spectrum of men in the dating market − there’s great men in the dating market, and then there’s terrible men, abusive men.

"There’s other things, such as donors who drink alcohol before donation, there are donors who take drugs, there are donors that are homeless. In the open market, if you don’t choose well… it’s like rolling a dice, but if you do choose well, if you do your research, you can find someone much better.

"The reproductive marketplace is just like the sexual marketplace. That's where people can make their own choices, make their own decisions, choose who to reproduce with."
