Power to the judges, right on
A lot of judges lately are desperately making noise with their decisions in the first year of Trump 47. Maybe they got John Lennon’s “Power to the people” ringing in their heads. John should have stayed with “She loves you”, and all of these judges should stick with interpreting, not making, laws.
Back to the judges. The latest example of a judge out of control is DC U.S. District Judge Amir Hatem Mahdy Ali:
On March 23, President Trump revoked the security clearances of several Biden administration officials and others, including Joe Biden, Kamala Harris, and Hillary Clinton.
In a memo revoking security clearances, President Trump wrote, ‘I have determined that it is no longer in the national interest for the following individuals to access classified information.’
One of the people whose security clearance was revoked is attorney Mark Zaid. Zaid was one of the attorneys for Susan Monarez, the former director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Monarez was removed from that position in August.
In May, Zaid sued the Trump administration, with ABC describing Zaid as a ‘whistleblower attorney’ who claimed his security clearance was revoked for ‘improper political retribution.’
In response to that suit, White House spokesman Harrison Fields said, ‘The decision to grant any individual access to this nation’s secrets is a sensitive judgment call entrusted to the President. Weighing these factors and implementing such decisions are core executive powers, and reviewing the President’s clearance decisions falls well beyond the judiciary’s authority.’
Now, a radical Leftist judge has ruled that President Trump cannot revoke Zaid’s security clearance.
Well, there is another one singing power to the judges, right on.
Can someone remind Judge Ali that no one voted for him? He has a job because a president nominated him and the Senate approved him. He does not have the constitutional power to make national security decisions. Those decisions belong to the guy who got 300-plus electoral votes! That’s how it works.
My good guess is that most of these judges know that they will be reversed, but write these opinions anyway. Why? Writing an opinion against President Trump is the easiest way to get your name on X, or to have people talk about you on MS NOW. These people get publicity by inserting themselves into our national debate.
What can we do about it? Well, that’s up to Chief Justice Roberts, who must understand how this type of judge is hurting the integrity of the judicial system. We need a majority opinion written by the Chief Justice reminding these judges that they should run for public office if they want to opine on these issues.
Otherwise, put the pen away and tell your leftist supporters to stop judge shopping
