It’s the Democrats, stupid!
It will soon be 2026, and everyone will be posting about midterms. It happens every two years or something like that.
As they keep telling us, midterms are always a disaster for the incumbent. And many have been. However, maybe that formula won’t work in 2026, and let me give you two reasons.

Image created using AI.
First, the incumbent this time is President Trump, and he is like the cat with 30 lives, and he hasn’t even used 20 of them.
Second, it’s the Democrats, stupid. The Democrats’ biggest problem is the faces that they put on TV often, as Douglas MacKinnon points out:
Most know the expression: “We have met the enemy, and he is us.” As much as the Democratic leadership wants to attack President Trump in the coming new year, they first must deal with a much larger problem: the mirror.
To begin with, who is the “Democratic leadership?” It is a question a number in the media have asked of former Vice President Kamala Harris and others without getting many good answers.
Republicans will be all too happy to keep spreading the message that the “leaders” of the Democratic Party heading into the midterms and beyond are Zohran Mamdani, the newly elected, socialist-leaning, “fleece the rich” mayor-elect of New York City; Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.); and Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-Texas). This trio has seemingly provided enough far-left rhetoric (anti-rule-of-law, pro-open-borders, “defund the police” and wreck the economy via “universal income,” etc.) to ensure tens of millions of “common sense” Americans will come out to vote against their policies in 2026 and 2028.
Add Governor Walz to the conversation, and you have today’s version of the Fab Four. It’s hard to believe that the Land of 10,000 Lakes is now the land of everyone stealing something from the taxpayers. It happens every time that the Democrat party promotes a welfare state and buys votes with the latest social programs.
The Democrats were banking on making 2026 all about Trump and affordability. They were planning to run on a platform that made you forget that they were the ones who made things unaffordable, from a mess called the Affordable Care Act to driving up energy prices with “green energy” chants.
The latest economic news has spoiled their party. Things should be looking a lot better come Labor Day. It won’t change the hearts and minds of those invested in Trump Derangement Syndrome, but they were never in play anyway. All you need to persuade is a small majority, and the midterms won’t be a disaster.
In the meantime, the Democrats’ Fab Four are not going away, and it will be fun to watch them primary centrists and try to implement their ideas in New York City and Seattle.
Yes, an honest Carville would say these days: “It’s the Democrats, stupid”.
