Pearl-Clutching Grifters: Bulwark's Fake Platner Skepticism Exposed
Sarah Longwell found a way to monetize her Trump hate. She's done it very, very well. She's a rich woman because of it. That's why I'll never call her dumb or stupid. She knows exactly what she is doing. That's why her defense of 'The Bulwark' and its support for Platner is a bunch of bull hockey.
I’m only gonna do this once, because there’s only so much time one can devote to bad faith attacks, but The Bulwark overall has been extremely Platner-skeptical, while still endeavoring to analyze his popularity with Maine voters. I disagreed with this take at the time, but JVL… https://t.co/mauxFudt9B
— Sarah Longwell (@SarahLongwell25) July 7, 2026This was my reply to Sarah:
Since you are a brilliant woman (you figured out how to make millions off of hating Trump), I know it's not ignorance, but rather you're being obtuse to write this. We can all see the things YOU said, Tim Miller said, etc. You were not Platner skeptical. You're also not about a 'better kind of politics'. You hate Republicans and you'll support anyone who can beat a Republican, no matter how scummy.
Her tweet was disingenuous. She'd earn more respect by simply stating they want Democrats to be in control of the Senate and Graham Platner could possibly beat Susan Collins when so many others have failed. That's still a gross take since Platner is a sex pest among other things, but at least it's honest.
People in your employ, who write for your outlet, know Lyndsey quite well. They knew she was telling the truth. Of all the outlets that could have taken the opportunity to prove they weren’t partisan shitheads, the Bulwark had a golden moment. And yet. https://t.co/p6MpI7BOk7

This is another important point. Many people who work for 'The Bulwark' worked in Republican politics. They knew Lyndsey. They knew her to be a honest and principled person. They just didn't care. They still joined in the chorus of nay-sayers just because they are now on the opposite side of the policial spectrum. Lyndsey didn't change. They did, and not for the better.

I think we have different ideas as to what "extremely Platner-skeptical" means.
Because this ain't it. https://t.co/xNfj1311Zm pic.twitter.com/yGzjGKMzBg

To be fair, they didn't build a shrine to Platner, so maybe they felt that was being reserved in their support.
"Anyone who has actually listened to us wrestle with the Platner dynamic..." Why would anyone do this? https://t.co/PCcIMx6ma6

To be fair, why would anyone listen to them at all, about any topic.

Have you ever priced pearl necklaces? They're not cheap.
Platner-skeptical, while still endeavoring to analyze his popularity and also rooting for him a little more. Amazing stuff https://t.co/5Q3kIwOrc3 pic.twitter.com/xj4NRwWkcc

While "Platner skeptical" you still preferred him over the most moderate Senator in the entire country. You are a fraud. https://t.co/vV7XTc3jYq https://t.co/IUMlupUNub

It's not about people who are willing to cross the aisle and work with the other side in politics. Collins has been one of the few Republicans who did that. They still advocated for an alleged rapist over her.
