President Trump just demanded that “Gasoline Retailers” lower their prices immediately given how low the price of oil is per barrel.

He also demands California stop abusing their citizens with the ridiculous gas taxes, which he said soon will become higher than the cost of the gas itself.

Here’s what he wrote:

Gasoline Retailers must get their Prices down, IMMEDIATELY! They’re too high considering that Oil is now at $68 a Barrel, and heading south. The Retailers must quickly react to this statement, and do what they know is right — DROP YOUR PRICE FOR OUR GREAT AMERICAN PEOPLE! There will be no gauging, which is totally illegal.

If Retailers don’t do this, big problems lie ahead! Start targeting around the $2.50 a Gallon number, and California should stop charging such heavy Taxes on their Gasoline. Soon the Tax will be higher than the Product itself, and the United States will not stand for it, nor will the People of California, who are being abused by these ridiculous Taxes, and by their own Government. President DONALD J. TRUMP

I really think more is going into the price of gas than what President Trump suggests. Maybe he’s right, but I remember Joe Biden was always quick to blame oil and gas companies for price gouging when his policies were the real problem. I’m not saying this is even remotely the same thing, but the price of a barrel of oil was much lower than $68 earlier this year and prices were still hanging around the $2.70+ range here.

I just don’t like the knee-jerk reaction to accuse oil and gas companies of price gouging. Again, I could be wrong and that’s exactly what they are doing. But I feel like it’s more complicated and that it may take longer for the price of gas to come down to $2.50.
