❓ WHAT HAPPENED: A new report has revealed that almost £30 billion (~$40 billion) of British taxpayer money has been given to terrorists and hostile states.💬 KEY QUOTE: “One of the problems is we have assumed that everybody wants the same thing as us. What we haven’t realised is, when it comes to other countries… some want to project their economic power in a way that undermines our economic power. It is economic warfare, and we have been naive about all of this.” – Rebecca Harding, CEO of the Centre for Economic Security🎯 IMPACT: This report underscores the connection between fraud and national security. Since the report’s release, experts have urged the British government to strengthen and integrate its anti-fraud and counter-terrorism strategies, though no verifiable steps have been taken in response. 📺 DETAIL: According to a secret British government report, approximately £28 billion of British taxpayer money was sent to terrorists, hostile states, and organized gangsters in the form of foreign aid and Covid relief loans. Recipients of the money include Russia, the Islamic State, and China. Specifically, British government grants were awarded to a technology company that was partly acquired by a company linked to the Russian state, while Covid loans were sent to Islamic State terrorists in Syria. Furthermore, investment funding was given to companies connected to the Chinese military, while funds intended for counter-terrorism efforts ended up in the hands of anti-Western extremist groups. British taxpayer money was also sent to gangs facilitating illegal migration into Britain. The fraud happened between 2015 and 2021. The Conservative Party, currently led by Olukemi “Kemi” Badenoch, was in government during this period. The British government allegedly wrote the report but prevented its publication to avoid backlash. “The major problem with the UK stance is that the Government fails to recognise that particular connection between fraud and terrorist financing… It is a threat to national security… the threat is acknowledged but… at a policy level, from successive governments, that link appears not to be joined up,” said Professor Nicholas Ryder, former adviser to the Home Affairs Select Committee.
