Brazilians Abolish Anything "Too Erotic" From "Love Motels" as They Prep for Climate Confab Attendees - đź”” The Liberty Daily
(DCNF)—Brazilian “love motel” owners are clearing out any items “too erotic” for COP30 attendees as the UN conference inches closer and accommodation options thin, according to multiple reports.
Though organizers insisted there will be enough accommodations for everyone slotted to attend, participants may need to resort to sex motels, cruise ships or pricey hotels far outside of Belém, Brazil, according to multiple reports. Owners of “love motels,” common in Brazil, are reportedly working to scale down the sensuality and raunchiness of their rooms ahead of the influx of guests for COP30, which is scheduled to run from Nov. 10-21.
“Our fear is that these logistical barriers might prevent the full participation of everybody that needs to be there,” Juan Carlos Monterrey Gómez, Panama’s special representative for climate change, told CNN on Thursday.
Love motel owner Ricardo Teixeira told CNN that he is preparing “Love Lomas,” noting that he’s considering which erotic features should go from hotel rooms before delegates, environmental activists, scientists and others descend upon the city for COP30. Teixeira told the publication he was considering removing sex chairs and toys as COP30 looms.
Owner of Motel Secreto, Yorann Costa, told the New York Times in July that they are freshening up “Motel Secreto” in anticipation of conference attendees.
“We’re taking out anything too erotic from the rooms,” Costa told the NYT. “And the location is perfect.”
“It’s the time to join forces,” André Godinho, who represents Belém in the planning of COP30, told the NYT. “The possibility of a love motel as accommodation — it’s not ugly, it’s not wrong. It’s part of the solution.”
The conference organizers have also arranged for two cruise ships to be docked at the Port of Outeiro, about 12 miles away from the event venue, according to the conference website.
The Trump administration recently stated that it will not be sending any “high level” representatives to COP30 this year as President Donald Trump combats what he’s termed the “green new scam.” Notably, Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom is reportedly planning to attend the UN climate talks as he weighs a 2028 presidential run.
