Gov. Ron DeSantis on Monday announced the creation of Florida’s first Second Amendment Sales Tax Holiday, suspending sales taxes on firearms, ammunition, and outdoor sporting equipment through December 31.

The initiative will exempt purchases of pistols, rifles, shotguns, bows, crossbows, ammunition, and accessories such as holsters, grips, and cleaning kits. It also applies to camping and fishing supplies, including tents priced at $200 or less, lanterns and flashlights costing $30 or less, and fishing rods and reels up to $75 individually or $150 in a set.

“We’re committed to helping Floridians keep more of their hard-earned money, and the Second Amendment Sales Tax Holiday is one way to do that,” said Gov. DeSantis. “Florida is a great state for outdoor adventure and exercising your Second Amendment rights, and we’re working to keep it that way.”

In addition to the sales tax exemptions, the state will offer discounted access to public shooting ranges during the holiday period. Half-price passes will be available statewide on October 12 and at select ranges in Lakeland, Panama City Beach, St. Cloud, and West Palm Beach on dates in October, November, and December. Veterans will receive free passes at all ranges on November 9 in recognition of Veterans Day.

“We appreciate Governor DeSantis’ steadfast commitment to these tax-saving measures that benefit all Floridians,” said Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission Chairman Rodney Barreto. “I want to encourage everyone to take advantage of this opportunity and enjoy the outdoors.”
