Wednesday was a lively day on the Hill. Thursday may be a touch quieter, but there are still several hearings/meetings set, including: 

  • House Budget — The Concurrent Resolution on the Budget for Fiscal Year 2027
  • Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions — Hearings to examine the nomination of Keith Sonderling, of Florida, to be Secretary of Labor.
  • Senate Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs — Hearings to examine the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau Semi-Annual Report, focusing on a new day at the CFPB through reform.

  • 8:00 AM — THE PRESIDENT participates in Executive Time — The White House
  • 9:30 AM — THE PRESIDENT meets with Senator Darline Graham — Oval Office
  • 11:00 AM — THE PRESIDENT meets with the President of El Salvador — Oval Office
  • 2:00 PM — THE PRESIDENT participates in a Policy Meeting — Oval Office
  • 5:00 PM — THE PRESIDENT participates in Signing Time — Oval Office
  • 9:00 PM — THE PRESIDENT delivers an Address to the Nation — East Room

    • And White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt will be back at the podium at 1:00 PM ET to conduct a press briefing.

    Keeping Up With the Cabinet

    Sec. Treasury - Scott Bessent — Bessent is slated to speak at the Ministerial on the Resurgence of Political Terrorism summit, hosted by Secretary of State Marco Rubio this afternoon. On Wednesday, he unveiled the U.S. Mint's plans to begin striking a new $1 gold coin featuring President Trump. 

    As America commemorates 250 years of independence, the @usmint will begin striking this new $1 gold coin to honor the enduring legacy of liberty and a lasting symbol of patriotism. Featuring President Trump, it celebrates the strength of American values, and the promise of a nation dedicated to preserving freedom for all.

    We had a few more notable court decisions on Wednesday, including:

  • ❌ In Raj v. DHS (SEVIS record), Judge Indira Talwani (Massachusetts) GRANTS in part/DENIES in part admin's motion to dismiss (emphasis on the DENIES).
  • ↔️ In Doe v. DHS (CBP One app), Judge Allison Burroughs (Massachusetts) DENIES plaintiffs' motion to enforce prior ruling but requires DHS to notify affected parole recipients and remedy any harm caused by its failure to comply with the court's earlier order.
  • ❌ In Dorcas International Institute of Rhode Island v. United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (asylum policies), Judge John McConnell (Rhode Island) DENIES admin's motion for stay pending appeal.
    • COMING ATTRACTIONS

    As noted above, President Trump is set to deliver an address to the nation this evening at 9:00 PM ET. He's already teased it as a pretty big deal. Might want to have that 🍿ready. 

    MORNING MUSING

    On Wednesday, Sister Toldjah brought us the story of the galaxy brains at "The View" insisting that somehow, Darline Graham Nordone stepping into her late brother's Senate seat to serve out the remainder of his term is evidence of DEI and the Palmetto State's inability to elect women or minorities statewide otherwise. (Nikki Haley and Tim Scott would like a word...)

    But there's additional pushback from the left on Graham's subbing in that, once again, underscores their hypocrisy. Sis noted multiple examples of the "widow's succession" — many of them involving Democrats. But I was also reminded of Jean Carnahan stepping in to serve in the Senate for two years following the untimely death of her husband, then-Governor Mel Carnahan, just weeks before the 2000 election.

    Yes, we Missourians "elected a dead man." We did so knowing that his widow was going to be appointed to serve in his stead by Mel's gubernatorial successor, Roger Wilson (my former boss, I'll note). No one in the Democrat camp seemed to have an issue with that. I guess that was (D)ifferent, though...
