Justice Thomas’s opinions in Hemani and Raich are reminders that the Court’s job is not to impose the policy outcomes a majority of its justices prefer but to interpret and apply the law as written. Whatever Justice Thomas, or anyone else, thinks of marijuana, the question for the Court is whether a law before it is within Congress’s power to adopt.

Sec. Labor - Keith Sonderling (acting) — Sonderling recently participated in a roundtable discussion in Rochester with area business leaders.

Yesterday, I hosted Acting Secretary of Labor Keith Sonderling for a roundtable discussion with Rochester-area business leaders. Discussions like these are a great way to hear directly from local leaders about how we can work together to strengthen America’s workforce and economy.

From employers to policymakers to community organizations, we all play an important role in bettering our communities. I appreciated having Acting Secretary Sonderling in town to hear firsthand from folks on the ground in southern Minnesota how we can best address our current and future workforce needs.

    Full Court Press...

And the Supreme Court handed down five decisions on Tuesday, including Blanche v. Lau, which involves the standard of proof for returning green card holders.

SCOTUS is set to hand down additional decisions on Thursday, and with 12 to go, that means we'll likely see five or six decisions — keep the popcorn handy.

    COMING ATTRACTIONS

As noted, SCOTUS will be handing down more decisions on Thursday, and then more next Tuesday — and there could be another day added just to squeeze the rest of them in.

President Trump will head to Turkey for the NATO Summit July 7-8.

But before we get to that, get geared up for all of the America 250 festivities because they are kicking off this evening and will be in full swing for the next 10-12 days.

    MORNING MUSING

I'd be lying if I said I was shocked at the outcome of several of the New York primaries on Tuesday. We've seen the way the winds are blowing for the Democrats, and it ain't pretty.

Many of you know this already, but for those who don't, I was a diehard Democrat until my early 30s. I come from a family of liberal Democrats — it's how I grew up; it's what I knew. Obviously, my views have evolved, and I've been firmly ensconced over here on the right side of the political spectrum for quite some time now.

But my first thought this morning as I reviewed and processed the unmistakable rise of the Marxists was this:

"If I hadn’t left the Democratic Party 22 years ago, I’d be running like hell from it now."
