Watch: Brandon Gill's Razor-Sharp Questioning Leaves the ABA President Flailing
Republican Rep. Brandon Gill (TX-26) has a real talent for questioning witnesses during hearings.
Gill's gift? He simply uses their own words or the words of their organizations to cross-examine them. That's what it means to be prepared to do your job, and we certainly could use more of that in Congress.

We saw that on Tuesday during a House Oversight Subcommittee hearing where he grilled the director of the Smithsonian. It did not go well for her. Here's a sample.
The Smithsonian's "MASS Action Toolkit" said that politeness is a "defining aspect of white supremacy culture."

On Wednesday, there was a House Oversight subcommittee hearing, raising questions about liberal influence on legal institutions like the American Bar Association (ABA). Among other things, the ABA sets the accreditation standards for law schools, evaluates judicial nominees, and promulgates rules of professional conduct for attorneys. So it's an institution that has had a lot of influence over the years.
Gill was questioning the president of the ABA, Michelle Behnke.

Gill pointed out some issues, asking basic questions, including about the makeup of the Supreme Court.
The American Bar Association says that the Supreme Court should reflect America's racial demographic makeup.

Behnke said the ABA doesn’t support racial quotas. Then Gill pointed out the problem in the ABA language, asking if the ABA would oppose the nomination of a third black Supreme Court justice.
Gill also put Behnke on the spot about the language on the ABA website saying everyone had "implicit biases." He asked her if she agreed with that.
The American Bar Association claims on their website that all of us have "implicit biases."

After the ABA president didn't answer it, he said, "It's a yes or no question." He then asked her against which group she had implicit biases and if she'd like to reflect on that. When she didn't directly answer that, he asked if she was going to filibuster the question.

Gill is polite, yet forceful, and just puts people on the spot to justify their positions, exposing the problematic issues in the process.
