Now This Is Some World Cup Fun - and a Big 'Thank You' to America

It's certainly been fun seeing how much our World Cup guests are enjoying America.
I've been writing about the extraordinary experiences that Freddy and his crew from Germany have been having, from discovering institutions like Buc-ee's to his latest experiences at the Johnson Space Center, even going in the Orion trainer and calling up the International Space Station.

Freddy has a lot of compatriots loving America.
There were the guys from Norway rowing (as guys from Norway historically did) — except it was up an escalator, posted by Jeremy Siegel of GBH News.

The most excited Japanese fan who loved the USA.

Most thoughtful guests? Well, you have to put the Japanese in the running. They not only attend the games, but they clean up after themselves, operating under the principle that they want to leave things cleaner than when they got there. This fan also managed to meet Jameis Winston, who's one of the quarterbacks for the NY Giants, who was also cleaning.

For sheer joy and singing, it might be hard to match the Tartan Army — the thousands of folks who came from Scotland and took over the Boston area. Here they are at the game in Foxborough.

They even honored us, singing our national anthem.

They were so enthusiastic, there was only one problem — they drank Boston dry of beer after Scotland beat Haiti, 1-0, on Saturday.
How funny is this? World Cup fans from Scotland drank the bars in Boston dry over the weekend! pic.twitter.com/q9WQVi78R8

At Sam Adams' Boston Taproom, they ran out of Boston Lager. They drank four times as much Boston Lager as normal over a four-day stretch, with the taproom scheduling an emergency delivery to make it up.
At Hennessey's Bar, Noelle Somers, chief operating officer, said, “We’ve been here for over 30 years, and we’ve never seen anything like it." “We tripled St. Patrick’s Day,” she explained. Now, that's a party. They'd better stock up, because Scotland plays again on Friday.

But that wasn't all. They donated money to charities in Providence, RI, where many were staying, as a thank you (Providence had more affordable accommodations than Boston for the thousands).
Scotland fans have donated nearly $30,000 to charities in Providence as a thank you for welcoming them for their World Cup matches.
