Trump's Surprising, Hilarious Endorsement of Maine Senate Candidate

redstate.com

President Donald Trump may have had differences of opinion on votes in the past with Sen. Susan Collins (R-ME). But he was not holding back on Wednesday, when faced with a binary choice at this point. He was asked if he was "all in" for Collins and if she had his endorsement over her scandal-plagued, leftist Democratic opponent, Graham Platner.

Trump being Trump was hilarious, and made the case simple.

"She does because she's a sane woman. She's not my best friend at all," Trump said.

"But she's a sane person. She's a person that's never missed a vote in many years. I mean, she's like 10,000 votes. She had 10,000 votes. She never missed a vote. Unfortunately, because sometimes she voted against me!

"You know, look, she's a sane woman, and she's a respected person. Maybe a little different ideology than me.

"But this guy is a thug. He's a fake thug. He's a phony. I made a lot of money picking out phonies. He's a real phony. He's a bad person."

He's funny, but it's a serious choice. It is a binary choice, and we can't have Platner, not just because he's horrible and that would be horrible for Maine, but because that seat could be the key to holding the Senate. We can't have that slip away to the Democrats, or we will see perfidy from them on the levels we haven't seen yet. Platner would always vote against Trump and the right policies.

Of course, we'll have to see how an endorsement from Trump runs in Maine, a blue state. As we've said, Platner's numbers have been slipping, and Collins tends to outperform polls.  As we also noted, Collins did flip her vote to support the original version of the SAVE America Act this week.

Plus, in addition to all the vile stuff and the radical leftist ideology, Platner just can't shut up and keeps saying things that remind people why they shouldn't vote for him. He's basically gloating after winning the nomination, thinking he's got a walk into the seat and that all the vile things aren't going to stop him. Collins has been able to hold off challengers for years in a blue state, so he may be counting his chickens way before they are hatched.

And particularly, after what Graham Platner said on MS NOW's Morning Joe, you have to know more is coming. That could pull even more independents away from him. The constant drip, drip of the scandal is having an effect; it's just a question of how much. Plus, they need to keep pounding away on how bad and radical his policies would be. We can't have more radical leftists.

So we'll have to see how the race shakes out. But it's going to be interesting to see what drops over the next few months.
