What Dem Rep. Is Urging Fed Employees to Do Regarding 'Elon Email' Is Raising Eyebrows

redstate.com

Elon Musk announced that an email would be going out asking people to list five things they did in their job in the last week.

It's something he's done at his companies in the past to help with productivity. It's a simple thought, and most people in non-governmental jobs have some similar measure of their productivity, either reporting or filling out forms about what they've done. It also just is a pulse check and indicates whether they're even responding to their email, Musk noted.

But the Democratic freakout was something to behold. One Democrat, Sen. Tina Smith (D-MN), insulted Musk, calling it a "d**k move." But Rep. Sean Casten (D-IL) went a step further -- he encouraged "massive civil disobedience."

Dem Senator Slams Elon Musk Message As a 'D*** Move' - Musk Skewers Her

This is a good opportunity for mass civil disobedience. Musk has no authority to do this. Encourage all federal employees to report to work, prepare GFY letters and continue to demonstrate the public service and patriotism he lacks. https://t.co/ftIsk6lKzL

This is a good opportunity for mass civil disobedience. Musk has no authority to do this. Encourage all federal employees to report to work, prepare GFY letters and continue to demonstrate the public service and patriotism he lacks.

How crazy is this?

First, the email is from the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) and yes, they certainly have a right to ask you about your work.

Second, in any event, Musk works for the Executive Office of the President and Trump, so yes, he does have the authority as well.

Third, Casten is encouraging federal employees to disregard the federal employees acting at the instructions of the duly elected president. And he's encouraging them to curse at them with "GFY." That will certainly get them in deserved trouble if they follow through with that, so it would be a way of smoking out people who shouldn't be there, if they fall for this and do what he's encouraging.

Casten doesn't care about the consequences for the employees, all he cares about is making a political point. He would rather they don't take the five minutes to fill out an email response and be insubordinate.

But what does it say about employees if they can't even answer something so simple and something so normal? What does it say about Democrats that they think normal job assessment is something unprecedented? He's literally proving the reason such a review is necessary if you have employees who would do this. Again, Casten seems to think the president doesn't have a right to review the executive branch.

Further, Musk has put a tremendous amount on the line to help the country. He's been facing all kinds of threats. His Tesla businesses have even been attacked and vandalized. He's not even getting paid for doing this. He's probably done more than any of these Democrats will ever do.

These Democrats have no shame. What they're really saying is that these employees shouldn't have to account to the American people, because they don't want them to answer the people's representative -- the president.

People on X chastised Casten for his post, saying he had no idea what non-governmental people had to do, with many talking about how they had to make regular reports, and so far this is just one email that takes a few minutes.

You think a 30 second questionnaire is cause for mass civil disobedience? Have you ever worked a real job?

I've had to complete production reports every month for 20 years. @elonmusk is asking them to do this once. It's a 5 minute task. If every govt employee that refuses to complete this simple request is let go, that's a win for the country.

I’m a vice president for a multinational company with over half a million employees and yet I still send my boss, an SVP, a bulleted list of key weekly accomplishments, a list distilled from what my direct reports send to me.

This isn’t unusual or hard.
