Lindsay Clancy trial live updates: Opening arguments begin in murder case of Massachusetts mom who killed her 3 small kids

nypost.com

Eighteen jurors will hear opening arguments Monday at the triple murder trial of Lindsay Clancy, the Massachusetts mother and labor and delivery nurse who fatally strangled her three young children in 2023.

Lawyers for Clancy, 35, have argued she is not criminally responsible for killing Cora, 5, Dawson, 3, and Callan, 8 months, because she was suffering from postpartum psychosis and extreme mental illness when she killed them and then tried to take her own life, leaving her paralyzed.

Clancy’s ex-husband, Patrick Clancy — who divorced Lindsay after the murders, remarried and has a new baby, but has staunchly defended her — is expected to be the first of 200 witnesses to testify.

“I wasn’t married to a monster,” Patrick said in a 2024 interview. “I was married to someone who got sick.”

Lindsay Clancy's ex-husband set to take the stand after opening statements

By Kaydi Pelletier

Lindsay Clancy's ex-husband, Patrick — married to her when she killed their three young children — is expected to be the first of 200 witnesses to take the stand after opening statements in the murder trial Monday.

The heart-wrenching case hinges on the rare, severe psychiatric diagnosis of postpartum psychosis — a little-understood illness that afflicts a very small percentage of women and can cause delusions and hallucinations after childbirth.

A total of 18 jurors (including six alternates) will decide whether they agree with Clancy's lawyers that the mom of three is not criminally responsible for the deaths of her children because she was in the throes of postpartum psychosis, despite undergoing medical treatment.
