A homeowner in California has captured the adorable moment a bear and its two cubs made themselves comfortable in her garden.

Once the bears entered the garden, they proceeded to relax in the shade and play.

The video, filmed in Sierra Madre, Los Angeles County, California, shows a large California bear lying under the cover of the trees near a garden fence, while its two small cubs play and wrestle each other.

When the woman pans the camera around to show the rest of the garden, a pet tortoise can be seen, watching the bears.

Later, the bears sniff around the tortoise, clearly intrigued by the animal.

The woman laughs and exclaims: “Oh my god, they’re so little!”

The presence of the animals inevitably raised concerns for safety, prompting the homeowner to take precautions and stay inside.

Local wildlife officials recommend keeping a distance and securing food sources to deter bears from residential areas.

But bear sightings in urban areas are becoming increasingly common.

Naturally, as human environments increase, bear habitats decrease. This forces them into built-up areas as they search for food and shade.

“Why lift up rocks in the forest to find a few worms when they can get a whole pizza out of someone’s garbage bin?” Wilson Sherman, a researcher for the University of California, said, addressing the increasing sightings of bears.

“They’re smart, and they quickly learn that neighborhoods can be a valuable source of calorie-dense food.”
