Jasmine Crockett Campaign Spends $75,000 On Luxury Travel, Security
Rep. Jasmine Crockett’s campaign filings show a pattern of high-end travel and security spending this year while she remains a vocal critic of traditional policing and flirts with higher office. The reported bills include pricey hotels, limousine services and nearly $50,000 in security, raising questions about priorities for a Dallas-area congresswoman. Her public remarks, from praising the Defund movement to deriding a Texas governor and defending a controversial Democratic figure, add fuel to tensions over tone and judgment. This piece lays out the spending and the statements side by side for readers to weigh.
Federal records list nearly $75,000 in campaign expenditures tied to travel, lodging and protection across multiple cities this year, despite Crockett representing a Dallas-based district. The filings detail high-end hotel stays and limousine charges in places like New York, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, San Francisco and Martha’s Vineyard. The tab has drawn attention because it contrasts with the needs and expectations of many constituents back home. Voters watching the budget likely notice where the money goes.
Since January, Crockett’s campaign reported $25,748.87 specifically on upscale hotels and limo services, including named charges at luxury properties. Line items include $4,175.01 at the Ritz-Carlton and $2,304.79 at The Luxury Collection, plus $5,326.52 at the West Hollywood Edition and $1,173.92 at the Times Square Edition. Other entries show more than $2,000 at Las Vegas resorts and two Vineyard stays totaling nearly $6,000. Those figures sketch a campaign accustomed to premium travel rather than frugal local engagement.
Transportation bills are part of the picture, with limousines and car services showing up repeatedly in the ledgers. The campaign paid $2,728.00 to a Chicago-based limo service, $2,310.30 to a D.C.-area car company and $1,254.00 to a Bay Area limousine firm. A client caption on one provider’s page stated, “We were honored to provide transportation services for Congresswoman Jasmine Crockett during her visit to Chicago.” Those entries underscore a pattern of upgraded travel rather than standard campaign logistics.
Beyond hotels and limousines, the filings show almost $50,000 spent on security. That number stands out given Crockett’s public history of supporting the Defund movement and criticizing conventional policing. In 2021 she said, “The Defund movement seeks to actually bring about healing and finally invest in our communities to make them safer, addressing the root causes of crime and by allowing the professionals to do their respective jobs. Defund is about finally being smart on crime. Defund is about lightening the load for our offices of all things they didn’t sign up for. Defund is about finally being fiscally responsible when it comes to policing in this state.”
Crockett has also signaled ambitions beyond her House seat, telling reporters she is “seriously weighing” a potential U.S. Senate run against a sitting Republican incumbent. She went further in another quoted line, “I am seriously weighing it to the extent that I’m about to spend a lot of money to get data.” Those comments suggest a campaign preparing for a wider fight and the expenditures line up with that kind of planning, whether voters approve or not.
The congresswoman has not been shy with provocative rhetoric either, once referring to Gov. Greg Abbott as “Governor Hot Wheels” in a remark that drew fire and accusations of mocking a disability. She followed up by explaining her intent and later posted on X, “I wasn’t thinking about the governor’s condition—I was thinking about the planes, trains, and automobiles he used to transfer migrants into communities led by Black mayors, deliberately stoking tension and fear among the most vulnerable.” That clarification didn’t fully calm critics who see the original quip as unnecessary and disrespectful.
Her public posture grew more controversial when she defended a Democratic attorney general-elect whose private text messages fantasized about violence against a Republican lawmaker. Crockett said, “And I was very excited to see that he was able to pull off the win. Not that I know him – I’ve never met him, I’ve never talked to him – but because it seems like people did not get caught up in the distractions.” She added, “Listen, there were still Democrats that were talking about it,” and urged focus on political strategy over outrage. Those remarks have been interpreted by opponents as tone-deaf and dismissive of violent rhetoric.
All together, the spending reports and the string of public comments form a mixed picture: a lawmaker who champions certain policing reforms and progressive priorities while operating a campaign that bills out like a coast-to-coast operation. For Republican critics, the contrast between Crockett’s rhetoric and her campaign ledger is a clear example of political double standards. Whether constituents view it as savvy campaigning or misplaced priorities will likely shape any future contests she enters.
