Clive Davis, legendary record producer, executive and lawyer, died at his home in Manhattan at 94.
Over the course of a 50-year career, Davis steered Columbia Records, Arista and J Records to the top of the pop music business, according to Variety.
He pushed the reluctant Columbia Records to get into the rock business, developing artists like Janis Joplin, Carlos Santana and Bruce Springsteen. He was fired from the company in 1973 for allegedly misusing company funds. He later pleaded guilty to tax evasion.
He eventually found a spot at Arista Records and later J Records.
