Drivers on a Tennessee interstate were treated to an unexpected fireworks show Saturday night when a trailer packed with pyrotechnics burst into flames and exploded, shutting down traffic for hours.

According to the New York Post, the dramatic incident unfolded on I-75 North in Hamilton County, where a white pickup truck pulled to the side of the highway after smoke began pouring from a trailer it was towing.

Within moments, the situation escalated.

The trailer, loaded with fireworks, caught fire and began erupting in a rapid series of explosions that sent sparks flying across the roadway and drew the attention of stunned motorists.

One witness, Parker, recorded the chaotic scene from a bridge overlooking the interstate.

“What is happening?” Parker asked as he approached the guardrail to get a better look.

Video shows thick smoke rising from the highway while fireworks exploded in every direction. The blasts continued as traffic sat at a standstill and onlookers watched from a safe distance.

As the fireworks continued popping, Parker joked about the spectacle.

“Is this the grand finale?” he said.

The witness later described pulling over after hearing the explosions before he even saw the source.

“This is nuts. I literally pulled off to the side of the road because I heard it before I saw it, and then I came across this bridge back here. This is absolutely crazy,” Parker said.

His footage quickly spread online, drawing millions of views and turning the roadside disaster into a viral sensation.

While the trailer was destroyed, photos released by the Tri-Community Volunteer Fire Department showed an unexpected outcome.

The trailer was reduced to a charred shell, but the pickup truck that had been towing it remained largely intact. Aside from visible scorch marks, the vehicle appeared to have escaped major damage.

Firefighters responded to extinguish the blaze and cool the smoldering remains of the trailer after the fireworks stopped detonating.

Authorities reported no injuries as a result of the incident.

The highway remained closed for several hours while emergency crews worked the scene and ensured there was no remaining danger from the fireworks.

According to WSMV, traffic finally began moving again shortly before 11 p.m., more than three hours after the interstate was shut down.

Despite the destruction, officials said everyone involved escaped unharmed, leaving behind a bizarre highway spectacle that looked more like a Fourth of July celebration than a roadside emergency.
