Danny McBride Reveals Why He Left Hollywood for Life in South Carolina
The actor says moving across the country gave him greater creative control while helping his family enjoy a quieter lifestyle away from Hollywood.
Danny McBride says leaving Los Angeles nearly a decade ago was one of the best decisions he made for both his career and his family.
According to Fox News, while speaking on Rich Roll's podcast, the Actor, writer, and producer explained why he relocated his family to Charleston, South Carolina, in 2017 after years of working in Hollywood.
McBride said the move gave him more creative freedom while also allowing his children to grow up in a different environment.
McBride, who created and starred in "Eastbound & Down" and "The Righteous Gemstones," recalled noticing an unexpected benefit while filming "Eastbound & Down" in Wilmington, North Carolina.
"When we were shooting 'Eastbound,' we were shooting in Wilmington, North Carolina, and the idea that there was not a direct flight, at that time, from L.A. to North Carolina, we noticed that the executives never came to set," he said.
"We're like, 'Oh, we just gotta choose cities that it's not easy to get to from L.A., and then we'll have more freedom.'"
McBride said Charleston has also provided a lifestyle that better fits the way he and his wife, Gia Ruiz, want to raise their two children.

He said he tries to limit his children's exposure to social media and prefers that they hear perspectives from their parents instead of strangers online.
"I just try to be present in their lives," McBride said.
He described life in Charleston as more centered on outdoor activities, saying the children in their neighborhood spend time fishing and enjoying the water rather than constantly being connected online.
McBride also reflected on how becoming a father changed his priorities.
He admitted it was easier to devote nearly all of his time to work before having children.
Once his son and daughter were born, he realized he wanted to be more involved at home while continuing to pursue his career.
"I want to be there for these kids. I want to be a good partner for my wife," he said.

To balance both responsibilities, McBride starts working before his children wake up.
By getting an early start, he said he can focus on creative projects before shifting his attention to helping his kids get ready for school and spending time with his family.
The Actor said finding that routine has allowed him to stay productive without sacrificing the moments that matter most at home.
