Former Los Angeles Rams cornerback LeRoy Irvin, who spent ten years with the franchise and was a two-time Pro Bowl winner, has died at the age of 68, according to statements online.

Irvin’s friend and former teammate, Eric Dickerson, took to Instagram to share the news Thursday. The Rams later confirmed his passing on their official X account.

“We mourn the loss of Rams legend LeRoy Irvin. We extend our condolences to his family and friends at this difficult time,” the team wrote.

Irvin and Dickerson played together for five seasons, according to the New York Post. “Devastated to hear about the passing of my brother, teammate, and Rams legend LeRoy Irvin,” he wrote.

“Leroy wasn’t just a lockdown corner and a fierce competitor on the field; he was a true friend and a great man who always brought incredible energy,” Dickerson continued in the post. “Rest in peace, my brother.” (RELATED: NFL Football Legend Deion Sanders Says He’s Cancer Free)

“Sending my thoughts and prayers to the Irvin family and all of Rams Nation,” he wrote.

During his NFL career, Irvin became one of the league’s top return specialists, setting a franchise record with 207 punt return yards against the Atlanta Falcons in 1981, WHO News Radio reported. Irvin earned four All-Pro selections and joined a select group of NFL players to receive All-Pro honors at two different positions.

Following his retirement from football, Irvin briefly served as an assistant coach at California State University, Northridge, in 1992. Irvin also helped launch Original Mini’s Inc. alongside Dickerson and other former Rams teammates, producing officially licensed NFL merchandise.

Dickerson did not go into details about his former teammate’s passing.
