Batman Is Mexican, And He's Taping Thieves To Poles
A Jalisco-based vigilante, nicknamed “Mexican Batman,” is reportedly being pursued by police for taping alleged criminals to poles.
Beginning in mid-June, five men have been duct-taped to streetlights to be viewed by early morning commuters and picked up by law enforcement, according to informador.mx. (RELATED: GRAPHIC: North African Migrant Drenched In Blood After Bashing Neighbor’s Head In With Hammer)
Along with the public humiliation, photos show that many of the alleged thieves also had whiskers painted on their faces or the word “Rata,” or rat, painted on their foreheads.
Behind the apprehended individuals, a large pink poster is often left, accusing the alleged thieves of stealing a motorcycle and warning them to stop their theft.
Mexican journalist Luis Cardenas said that “after the lack of help from the authorities,” the anonymous hero had taken down five thieves in 10 days.

In one photo taken June 17, two 18-year-olds were found bound in gray tape with their mouths covered and the face paint present. Another 23-year-old was found that same day, and another man was found similarly constrained with a message accusing him of the motorcycle theft, La Prensa reported.
The State Security Secretariat confirmed that the motorcycles left beside the alleged thieves had indeed been reported stolen, informador.mx reported, adding that motorcycle theft had drastically increased over time.
As the internet began to catch wind of the one or many vigilantes behind the Mexican Batman, the State Attorney General’s Office began an investigation into both the motorcycle robbers and Batman himself, citing violations of the rule of law, according to informador.mx.
The police continue to treat the men tied up as the victims, with one left bloodied and bruised, The Sun reported.
Officers have identified two vehicles that may be connected to the incidents, the New York Post reported.
