Popstar's New Music Tease Is Somehow Even More Cringe Than Her Trip To Space
Katy Perry teased her new single “Watch It Burn,” but it seems more like we’re watching her crash and burn instead.
The video is supposed to reflect the famous singer’s attempts at grappling with anger and challenges in her life, but in true Perry form, it comes off cheesy and doesn’t land.
She tried too hard to combine pop-rock sounds with wearing overalls and clunky boots in the bizarre teaser clip. Perry clung to a baseball bat in the dark video, but the lyrics gave off weird and awkward vibes that didn’t match the angry lyrics.
Perry sang the lyrics, “You know I gave and I gave, now I’m giving up, there’s nothing more you can take.”
The song continued, “Don’t wanna cause a scene, but give me the gasoline.”
She then belted out the words, “Tonight’s the night, I light a match, throw it hard, behind my back, gonna try to forgive and forget — light a cigarette, and watch it burn.”
However, nothing about her demeanor appeared angry. The lyrics seemed at odds with her actions, and the overall message of the video felt unclear and disconnected. Even by Perry’s notoriously low bar, this was a stunning misfire. (RELATED: Katy Perry Butchers Trevi Fountain Ritual In Cringe Clout Grab)
Those who thought her cringey trip to space was hard to watch should probably not waste their time with this teaser video.
Social media scoured the singer with comments such as, “Why is it cringe?😭😭I can’t explain it but she’s acting like a Genz and it’s feeling forced,” and “this sounds genuinely terrible what is she thinking.”
Other reactions included, “Katy I love u but this is fucking awfffulllllll,” and “id love to watch her burn.”
