Republicans grilled Loudoun County Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Aaron Spence on biological males in women’s spaces before the House Committee on Education and Workforce on Wednesday.

The hearing, titled “Breaking Trust: Attack on Parental Rights, Inappropriate Content, and Legal Abuses in America’s Schools,” involved questioning three superintendents from various districts, as well as the Managing Director of Education and Federal Strategic Advocacy at the National Center for Youth Law, according to the committee.

Spence received numerous questions about Loudoun County Public School’s transgender policies. (RELATED: USA Hockey Hit With New Transgender Athlete Allegations By US Senate Committee)

Republican North Carolina Rep. Virginia Foxx asked Spence whether it was appropriate for boys and girls to sleep in the same rooms during field trips.

“It’s appropriate and lawful for transgender students to be able to be treated as their consistently identified gender,” he responded.

Republican Missouri Rep. Bob Onder asked him whether it was acceptable for biological men to be in women’s locker rooms.

“Transgender women should be allowed in women’s spaces,” Spence said.

“Federal law requires it,” he claimed after Onder continued pressing him.

Over the past few years, there have been several instances where Loudoun County Schools’ transgender policies have generated significant backlash.

A Loudoun County boy was previously convicted of raping a girl in the female restroom at Stone Bridge High School. He was found guilty of raping her while wearing a dress in the bathroom during 2021.

That same year, a Christian teacher was reportedly suspended from a Loudoun County school for refusing to comply with their policy of calling students by their preferred pronouns. He was later reinstated after two subsequent court rulings.

Loudoun County Public School’s Title IX Office opened an investigation into two boys who were caught on video questioning why a girl, who identified as male, was in their locker room, ABC7 News reported. The female student allegedly recorded them.

The school suspended the boys for alleged sexual harassment and sex-based discrimination against their classmate, the outlet reported, citing their families’ attorney. One mother took her son out of the school district and left the state.

During the hearing Wednesday, Republican Florida Rep. Randy Fine asked Spence whether he used the women’s restroom.

“Of course not,” Spence said.

“Why not?” Fine asked.

“Because I would never use a women’s restroom. I’m a male,” Spence responded.

“Because you’re a man! Wow! That’s a great thing. So why do you think men should be able to use the [women’s] restroom in Loudoun County Public Schools?” Fine asked.

“I don’t,” Spence said.
