The man hailed as a hero for disarming one of the Bondi Beach shooters was charged Wednesday with alleged domestic assault against his father.
Ahmed al-Ahmed, 44, drew global attention after he apprehended one of the two shooters in the December 2025 Bondi Beach shooting in Australia. Ahmed was charged with allegedly putting his father in a headlock May 9 at a house in Bankstown, a suburb of Sydney. He has been charged with common assault and stalking and intimidation, New South Wales (NSW) police confirmed in a statement to the Guardian.
“It’s fake information … it’s not true at all,” Ahmed told the Australian Broadcasting Corporation.
“I don’t have any information at all,” he added.

Video footage of the Bondi attack shows Ahmed jumping and disarming one of the shooters, getting shot multiple times himself in the process. The disarmed shooter, Sajid Akram, was later shot dead by the police.
Ahmed, a Syrian-born Muslim from Sydney, was awarded the first prestigious Keys to the City of Canterbury-Bankstown and named the Local Hero of the Year. Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and NSW premier Chris Minns visited Ahmed in the hospital as he recovered from multiple surgeries after the shooting. A GoFundMe established for him raised over three million dollars.
During a press conference following the shooting, Minns called Ahmed “a genuine hero” and added, “I’ve got no doubt there are many, many people alive tonight as a result of his bravery.”
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu thanked Ahmed after the shooting that targeted the Jewish community, saying, “We saw an action of a brave man — turns out a Muslim brave man, and I salute him — that stopped one of these terrorists from killing innocent Jews.” (RELATED:Congress Discreetly Moves To Merge US Military Even Closer To Israel’s)
Ahmed is due to appear at the local Bankstown court for the alleged domestic assault on July 29.
