Alan Dershowitz Responds To Epstein Email Suggesting He Was 'Borderline Insane'

Former Harvard law professor Alan Dershowitz responded Wednesday as host Piers Morgan asked him about an email from registered sex offender Jeffrey Epstein that questioned Dershowitz’s mental state.

A discharge petition for a resolution calling on the Trump administration to release files connected to the disgraced financier reached the threshold to force a vote in the House of Representatives Wednesday when Democratic Rep. Adelita Grijalva of Arizona signed on immediately after being sworn in. Morgan gave Dershowitz a chance to respond during Wednesday’s episode of “Piers Morgan Uncensored” as roughly 20,000 documents released by members on the House Oversight Committee were reported on by the media. “Alan, there is one that mentions you. It’s kind of it’s not, I would say, significant to what we’re talking about. It’s just interesting. Uh, Jeffrey Epstein called Trump borderline insane in a 2018 email exchange with Larry Summers, the former Treasury Secretary and president of Harvard University,” Morgan said after explaining he was “distracted.” “Trump borderline insane, Epstein writes, who then makes a reference to you, Alan, saying you’re a few feet further from the border, but not by much. Other words, he’s suggesting you’re nearly borderline insane. I mean, what is your reaction to that?”

Dershowitz represented Epstein, who reportedly committed suicide in his Manhattan jail cell while awaiting trial after he was arrested in 2019 on new charges, during the period when the financier pled guilty to sex charges in 2008.

“Well, at that point, uh, Epstein and I were enemies. Obviously, he thought I had made him a terrible deal. Uh, that sweetheart deal. He refused to pay me my legal fee. I threatened to sue him,” Dershowitz said. “Uh, I was not in a good uh, relationship uh, with him. Um, and I terminated any kind of relationship.”

“I had an academic relationship with him primarily. I went to a lot of his seminars. I spoke at one of his seminars, but as soon as he was arrested and charged and as soon as I saw the evidence, I no longer went to any of those seminars,” Dershowitz continued. “And you know, Epstein was furious at me. So, I’ve never seen that email, but I can easily imagine that him thinking that I’m uh a little bit kooky, but… I’ll let the public decide my mental status.”

Epstein had extensive ties to celebrities, politicians, and executives, even after he was a convicted sex offender. Among those who were known to have been close with Epstein were L Brands founder Lex Wexner, director Woody Allen and Prince Andrew.
