The first incident took place before 8 p.m. after the victim bought groceries and was riding along M Street in the Northeast atop a bike when multiple juveniles neared them, police said. A member of the group allegedly lobbed a bike into the victim’s path while two others tried to snatch the victim’s ride but only ended up snatching a portion of the groceries. The suspects then fled the scene, according to the MPD.

The next robbery took place roughly 20 minutes later when another victim was atop a scooter on the Metropolitan Branch Trail and going past multiple juveniles, the MPD alleged.

A teens allegedly grasped the victim’s bookbag and forced them to a halt. The suspect proceeded to steal the scooter before leaving it as an MPD mountain bike officer approached, police said. The suspect fled the scene, snatching the victim’s cellphone from the scooter, according to the MPD.

Although the teen has been arrested and charged in connection with the incidents, the statement did identify any of the others allegedly involved.

The cases are still under investigation and authorities are offering a reward of up to $1,000 to anyone who provides information leading to “the arrest and indictment of the person or persons responsible for a crime committed in the District of Columbia,” according to the press release.

The alleged robberies took place the same day a man was arrested by the MPD outside D.C.’s Cathedral of St. Matthew the Apostle hours before members of the Supreme Court were scheduled to meet there for their annual tradition of “Red Mass.” Authorities allegedly found over 200 improvised explosive devices and documents suggesting hatred directed at Catholics, Jews, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and the U.S. Supreme Court inside a tent.
